2️⃣107: A New Chapter 🫄
an unexpected turn
I’m not having a baby. Not like ever, but not anytime soon. I used the pregnant non-binary person emoji because I was looking for something to represent “new” or “rebirth.” That’s what this point in my life feels like.
It feels like that because I’m currently 92% unemployed 😶
I want to give a big shoutout and thank you to all of the people who reached out after last week’s email, offering support and even potential work opportunities. Whether it was a “send me your resume and I’ll pass it along to my company” or an “I sent your resume to my wife’s company, I know you don’t work in that industry, but it’s the only thing I could think of at the moment, I’ll keep an eye out for job openings” or the people who said, “I’m going to make a call right now to put you in contact with a recruiter” and immediately made a call. And even the people who responded or messaged me offering words of encouragement.
Every single day, I’m reminded of how lucky I am to have so many different people in the world who believe in me and want to see me succeed. This is especially helpful in moments like these when there are many big changes happening and lots of hard work ahead of me.
Thank you to all of you who reached out, and even those who didn't who don’t need to because you’ve always been there for me, and I know you always will 🫶🏽
The last time I updated my digital portfolio was in 2018. I was fresh out of grad school and working a full-time job for the first time since 2016. As a Copywriter, I always felt insecure about my portfolio. I’d look around at all of my Miami Ad School classmates who were Art Directors crafting these beautiful layouts and designs, only to struggle with how to showcase my work. I always felt like I was at a disadvantage.
Working in social media made me feel even more lost on how to present my work. Instead of one campaign with a clear objective, a beginning, an end, and an idea that could be presented concisely on a single page, I had dozens (hundreds) of social media posts that covered different ideas, campaigns, topics, and objectives.
Should I pick a few and just post them?
Should I screenshot all the funny comments and replies I left from brand accounts?
Should I explain the reasoning behind each one I post?
Does this mean I have to scroll through 5+ years of social media content to find the best stuff?
It was overwhelming just to think about it. But a few weeks ago, I had a lightbulb moment and finally thought of a way to tell the story I’ve been eager to share.
I’m very proud of my brand new digital portfolio, but I want to highlight the section on my time at Virgin Voyages. This section, I feel, will showcase the work I need to catapult into my next job opportunity.
That’s why today’s email is actually just to tell you that my redone portfolio is ready for the world to see, and I’m looking for a new job. If you know of any full-time or freelance opportunities for a Copywriter, Growth Marketer, Brand Strategist, or even a Writer in journalism for any news or media publications, please send them my way or share my name. You can find all of my work history and contact info on the site linked below.
Now, without further adieu, my name is David Núñez-Ariza, and here’s my story about Virgin Voyages.
