2️⃣101: What's Next? 🤔
don't call it a new year's resolution
I finally understand Kanye West.
Not the antisemitism part, that’s still (and will always be) wildly fucked up. I encourage everyone to take a moment to evaluate their relationship with artists and the particular messages they broadcast. With how we revere public figures in today’s society, many people will jump on ideas without thinking twice because someone famous whose work they admire said them. This can lead to very dangerous consequences.
(okay, the serious part is over)
What I finally understand about Kanye West is his missed deadlines. Ye is notorious for telling people he’s dropping an album only to see a release date come and go like the wind. Some projects get pushed back, and some disappear into thin air, never to be heard of again. Until recently, I couldn’t understand how someone could do such a thing: Tell lots of people who support them something and then not fulfill their promises.
What I’ve come to realize is that creative output doesn’t care about your deadlines. This isn’t a case of perfectionism. It’s not about having something finished, going over it countless times, and tweaking tiny things here and there (although I do tend to do that with my writing sometimes).
This is about wanting to present something as a fully fleshed-out idea. It’s meant to showcase the best work and give readers something that makes sense.
If you’ve been subscribed to this email for at least a few months, you might’ve seen some short stories I wrote. Stories like this one, this one, this one, and also this one. They’re all part of a bigger idea and world I’m creating. I’ve only told a handful of people about my plan for this world and these ideas.
Those people are:
****
*****
*******
*********
******
********
*********
They’re the only ones who know what’s coming, how it starts, what happens in the middle, and how it ends.
I’ve had a story on the books for this week for quite some time. As I sat back and thought about how it would be received, I realized one very important thing: The majority of people reading this newsletter will have no fucking clue what the story is about. Just because I think something is awesome because there are a million clues and details to future things I’m planning doesn’t mean anyone reading it will enjoy it as much as I do. They might not enjoy it at all because they will be very lost.
So I’ve come up with a solution.
I’m writing a book that will be released via this email newsletter.
The book will be released starting January 2024. I will send one chapter a month on the last Tuesday of every month. To read these full stories, you will need to be a premium subscriber. You can sign up for a premium subscription through the button below.
To the handful of premium subscribers I have so far, thank you. Your support means the world to me. You’ll get a special 2UESDAY holiday gift as a thank you (and you’ll always get things randomly mailed that no one else gets).
To everyone reading this, thank you for the support. It really means everything. If you’re not a premium subscriber, please consider signing up because email opens don’t pay the rent (I tried, but my landlord said they wouldn’t accept my 64.8% email open percentage even though it’s way above industry standards.)
There will still be weekly emails for everyone, including non-premium subscribers.
See you next week 🫶🏽
